This mixed media piece is stencils and various papers on canvas utilizing wheat paste. Overlayed with airbrush, spray-paint and paint pens. Most voltz work is not a crossover with anything but this is the exception. Tito can be seen with a switchblade raised and his right ring finger raised indicating for the viewer to ‘Go To Wayne’. Gary can be seen on the right raising a fist from behind the safety of a wall. Tito’s caption bubble is left empty by design so that the viewer may interpret the message for themselves.
This complete but damaged work was a voltz inspired way to show the scale of gray from white to black. This project showed the progression of Gary Masalam getting punched in the gut, curling up and then dying. It is museum board (gauche painted) on gator board (spray paint painted).
The sketch on the right contains initial concepts for Gary’s poses.
This project predates this website by seventeen years. Sketch and finished product of the Voltz Life mural. It is sad that the finished version became more PG with Gary driving a car versus being hit by Tito’s car.
